Coach Chuck Warner

Chuck Warner has been a leader in American Swimming for more than forty years. In 2022 he was inducted into the American Swimming Coaches Hall of Fame for his coaching achievements and service to the sport. As a swimming coach he has led teams to seven National Y team championships, three NCAA Championship runners-up teams (DII), and seven runners-up Big East Conference teams. For thirteen years he served as head coach at Rutgers University. During his tenure, the women's team moved from eleventh place in the Big Conference when he took over in 1997 to being ranked twelfth in-country in 2006. That year the Lady Knights finished eighteenth at the NCAA Championships with four athletes earning all-American honors. Four times he was named conference coach of the year.  His teams have been noted for their spirit and cohesiveness, enjoying the excitement of championship swimming as the culmination of a season and even years of hard work.

 

The swimmers he's assisted in developing have risen to the highest level of the sport including winning Olympic Gold Medals. During his career, he has developed more than a dozen USA National Team members and coached athletes to over 100 NCAA all-American berths. In 2007, he helped three swimmers represent the United States in international competition. That summer Kelly Harrigan was one of only two American women to win a gold medal in an individual race at the World University Games, in Bangkok, Thailand.

 

More than simply a leader of athletes and teams, Coach Warner has tried to give back to the sport of swimming more than he's taken. He's served on the US Olympic International Committee and been very active in his USA Swimming local swim committees. For thirty years he served on the Board Of Directors for the world's largest coaching organization, "The American Swimming Coaches Association." The ASCA is thought by many to be the 'coach of the American Swimming Team' by motivating and leading various issues and entities around the world in swimming. Coach Warner led the effort toward adopting a code-of-ethics in the late 1980s. He authored the document that is still used today. In 2005 and 2006, Chuck served as president of the ASCA.

 

Coach Warner has been a renowned speaker at national and international forums on various subjects of professional coaching. He has been the keynote speaker at the American Swimming Coaches Association World Clinic, spoken at the Swedish National Team Coaches Clinic, the World Swimming Championships, the United Arab Emirates, as well as around the United States. He has served as a consultant for several teams, including America's most successful club team in history, the Mission Viejo Nadadores in 2013. His landmark book of Four Champions, One Gold Medal that was published in 1999 was a great gift to the world of competitive swimming. He followed up in 2012 with one of the most popular swimming books around the world, ...And Then They Won Gold: Stepping Stones to Swimming Excellence Volume I. In 2019 he released the book "EDDIE REESE: Coaching Swimming, Teaching Life." 

 

In the summer of 2010, Coach Warner turned his efforts toward helping families and children in developing the company ARETE Aquatic Services. Families are served through a swim school and teaching children how to swim, creating magnificent swim camps & clinics, working with 'masters swimming' and tri-athletes and creating seminars and authoring books. His positive approach to learning and growing is sure to influence many, many more people around water in the years to come.
